Course Content for Grammar Teacher Training Course

The Grammar Teacher Training Course at Vidhyanidhi Education Society (Govt. Regd.) meticulously trains educators with the skills and understanding necessary to impart grammar education effectively. Understanding and teaching Singular and Plural Nouns is a primary focus of this course and forms a foundational facet of grammar education.

Singular Nouns

Familiarize yourself with singular nouns in the first section of the Course Content for Grammar Teacher Course. These are words used to name one individual, place, animal, bird, insect, object, etc. A lady, a hotel, an eagle, a desk, etc. are some examples.

This section also focuses on using articles- a, an, or one- before singular nouns. The article ‘a’ or ‘one’ is used when a singular noun begins with a consonant, for example- a man, one man, etc. Conversely, the articles ‘an’ or ‘one’ are used when a singular noun begins with a vowel, as in an artist or one artist.

Plural Nouns

Next, you will learn plural nouns which specify two or more individuals, places, animals, or items. Examples include five men, two shops, seven puppies, three tables, etc. The shift from singular to plural nouns obeys specific rules, which are covered in detail in the course.

Rules for Plural Nouns Formation

One of the principal components of the Grammar Teacher Training Course is understanding and usage of the rules for plural noun formation.

There are six primary rules covered in the course:

Changing most nouns into plurals:

We can convert most nouns into plurals by adding an ‘s’ at the end. Example: sister- sisters, park- parks, etc.

  • Addition of ‘es’: We can add ‘es’ to words with ch, sh, zz, s, ss, and x endings and change them to plurals. Example: branch – branches, buzz – buzzes, etc.
  • Addition of ‘s’: When a word has a vowel before ending in ‘o’, an ‘s’ is added. Example: cuckoo – cuckoos and video – videos.
  • Addition of ‘es’: For words ending in ‘o’ with a consonant before it, ‘es’ is added. Example: buffalo – buffaloes and volcano – volcanoes.
  • Addition of ‘s’ to words ending in ‘y’ with a preceding vowel: An ‘s’ is added when a word has a vowel before ending with ‘y’. Example: day – days and key – keys.
  • Dropping ‘y’ and adding ‘ies’: For words with a consonant before ending in ‘y’, ‘y’ is dropped, and ‘ies’ is added. Example: cherry- – cherries and daisy – daisies.
  • Dropping ‘f’ or ‘fe’ and adding ‘ves’: For words ending in ‘f’ or ‘fe,’ these letters are dropped and substituted with ‘ves.’ Example: wolf – wolves and knife – knives.

Irregular Plural Nouns

The Course Content for Grammar Teacher Course at Vidhyanidhi Education Society (Govt. Regd.) also includes irregular plural nouns that fail to follow typical pluralization rules. For example, ‘man’ becomes ‘men,’ mouse – mice, goose – geese, child – children, etc. Some nouns such as deer and fish- remain unchanged in singular and plural forms.
